Suffragettes
Background
In the early nineteenth century, changing social conditions and the idea of equality led to the beginning of the Women's Suffrage Movement. Women were participating in reform movements and taking an increased interest in politics. Women and men began to question why women were not allowed to vote.
Students will view several online newspapers and follow the permalinks embedded in each PowerPoint slide to learn about the Suffrage Movement and its role in changing attitudes and beliefs, and the efforts at earning equality.
In this lesson, students will use the Suffragettes, Attitudes and Beliefs, and Pictures with a Point worksheets, among others, to discover how suffragettes gained equal rights and came to earn the right to vote!
